"McLuhan adopted the term "massage" to denote the effect each medium has on the human sensorium, taking inventory of the "effects" of numerous media in terms of how they "massage" the sensorium. "
This is directly related to the piece I want to do on the influence of national media on youth and their following.
"By playing on words and utilizing the term "massage," McLuhan is suggesting that modern audiences have found current media to be soothing, enjoyable, and relaxing; however, the pleasure we find in new media is deceiving, as the changes between society and technology are incongruent and are perpetuating an age of anxiety."
I feel this is exactly what has happened to me, and age of anxiety. Now since media is more-so easily obtainable, internet and tv, it has an even more impact and influence on the viewers.

Plexi-grass
I want this piece to shine light on pollution. We have a beautiful campus that strives to keep the integrity of the landscape and we can walk outside to see a polluted smokestack. This piece needs more more work for sure.
Consumer Mask
This idea plays off ritual dance masks. It would be a collage of different consumer stores. Also play on the fact that many american homes spend more than they make.

END OF FREEDOM
Self Portrait
Media Distortion
This piece confronts the idea that news/media pushes political agenda on the population and distorts the truth to serve their own political agenda. I want the tv setup to be realistic like an actual room. The child or teen will be projected looking back at the viewer with hypno eyes and the antenna will also be projected. It will move around erratically while the teen or child fails to fix the station.
